Scholarship

The Bryant Searcy Scholarship Foundation’s purpose is to aid youth in the process of pursuing higher education. We know that financial resources are not spread equally throughout our communities.  Therefore, it is our goal to bridge that gap and provide deserving students with opportunities to pursue higher education. 

Scholarship Details

  • A one-time Scholarship will be awarded annually

  • Applicants can download the scholarship application to apply

  • The Scholarship Award amount:  $2,500

  • The Scholarship opens to receive applicants on February 1, 2026

  • The Deadline for 2026 Scholarship Application is TBD

  • Completed applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Review Committee

  • The selected recipients will be notified via electronic communication 

  • Scholarships will be awarded at the Scholarship Banquet on TBD

Scholarship Requirements

To apply for and receive this scholarship you must:

 

  • Be a current resident of the Detroit Metropolitan area (which includes the following counties: Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, and Wayne) 

  • Be a current graduating high school senior

  • Submit proof of acceptance to a full-time program at a 4-year accredited college or university for the 2026-2027 academic year.

  • Submit the application by TBD, electronically signed by you and your parent/guardian

  • Have a minimum 3.0 overall cumulative GPA.

  • Have an official transcript submitted to tbssfgb@gmail.com by a school official.

  • Provide 2 letters of recommendation

    • (1) School recommendation

    • (2) Community or Church recommendation (if applicable)

  • Complete a virtual interview as part of the application process.

  • A two-page double spaced essay is required.

  • The topic of the essay is: Given the socio-economic state of our nation, many people are disadvantaged in our society.  If chosen to receive the scholarship, how would you use the money and your higher education to shift the socioeconomic dynamics in your community and support the disadvantaged?

  • Essay must be typed using size 12 Times New Roman font, double-spaced, one-inch margins.

The Application Package along with the Essay must be returned via the website by the deadline date of TBD.
